Description
This assignment is for my public speaking class. The video has to be between 4 and 6 minutes. I just want you to basically make a speech for me to record myself. The points from the argument come from a book, I can provide you with the email and password to access the book (Understanding Human Communication, 14th Edition).
Here are the points of the speech:
What is Communication, anyway?
Question 1. Demonstrate your knowledge of the difference between the linear and transactional communication models, and your ability to apply this knowledge to an example.
*In your own words, contrast the linear communication model and the transactional communication model as each is presented in section 1.1 of the text.
*Then, as a way to illustrate the transactional communication model, describe a time when a listeners reaction led you to change your communication approach.
What was it about the listeners feedback that stood out to you? How did you change your communication as a result?
Question 2. Demonstrate your knowledge of the concept of communication competence, and your ability to apply this knowledge to an example.
*Describe one (1) of the most competent communicators you know personally.
*Then, explain how this person demonstrates at least three (3) of the key elements of communication competence as defined in section 1.4 of the text.
Question 3. Demonstrate your knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of social media, and your ability to apply this knowledge to your own personal life.
*Draw from section 2.3 in the text to contrast benefits and drawbacks of social media.
*Then, offer an example from your or someone elses social media interactions as a way to illustrate these benefits and drawbacks.
Question 4. Demonstrate your knowledge of the basic steps in writing a purpose statement for a persuasive presentation.
This question helps us to look ahead. Your persuasive presentation is not due until the end of the semester, but you need to start thinking now. I want a chance to see the kinds of topics you might want to make your presentation about. Persuasion can be defined as the act of motivating a listener, through communication, to change a particular belief, attitude, value, or behavior.
*Draw from section 12.1 of the text to explain the basics of how to write an effective purpose statement for a presentation.
*Then, offer a draft purpose statement for a presentation you might deliver at the end of the term. Make sure to follow the form in the book. Make sure to say why you want to talk about this topic.
