Major Learning Experience #3 Evaluate and Reflect on Progress
- Here are the instructions for Major Learning Experience 3, which is the final portion of our course.
Throughout this course, youve participated in a process. Youve identified a challenge to succeeding in college, youve given yourself a goal, and youve created an action plan with steps and strategies that support the accomplishment of that goal.
For the final major learning experience of the course, do the following:
Create a presentation in your choice of format that takes the professor (and classmates, if youve elected to share) through your self-improvement journey.
Reflect on your progress by answering the following prompts:
- Evaluate: Were you able to make any improvements or chip away at your goal? Why or why not?
- Explain: What worked for you? What didnt work? Why?
- Reflect: What would you do differently next time? How might you apply what you learned through this process to other challenges you face in life?
- Advise: What 2 pieces of advice would you give an incoming freshman? Use personal stories from your own experience and/or class lessons/activities to support your advice.
This final reflection can be done by any method of your choice – you can write a short essay answering these questions (in the context of 5 paragraphs), you can create a PowerPoint (or use another presentation tool), or record a video or audio reflection. Whatever the format, just make sure you fully elaborate on each of the criteria (Evaluate, Explain, Reflect, and Advise).
If you would like to create a video, you might wish to use the Flipgrid tool that I have included in the week 7 folder.
Remember, this is a time to reflect on the past semesteryou are not being graded on whether or not you accomplished your goal. Your grade will be determined by how clearly you are able to explain your process of trying to achieve that goal. Goal-setting is an ongoing process. Whether the goal is big or small, it’s the journey that is the important part to reflect on. Flex that growth mindset – you are growing and adjusting and that takes time!
